At Parson Street, we believe that learning how to learn is just as important as what is learned.
Our Successful Learners strategy is a whole-school, metacognitive approach that explicitly teaches behaviour for learning. Through this, children develop a deep understanding of the attitudes, habits and strategies that lead to success—not only in the classroom, but in life. Central to this approach is a shared language around learning behaviours, which is used consistently across the school to help pupils reflect on how they learn, not just what they learn.
Over the past few years, Parson Street has undergone a significant curriculum transformation—one that Ofsted recently recognised as a key strength of the school.
Our curriculum is ambitious, carefully sequenced and deeply engaging, designed to ensure that all pupils leave us with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need for the next stage of their education. It reflects our belief that children learn best when they are inspired, supported and challenged—and when their learning is firmly rooted in meaningful contexts.
We reward every child who takes responsibility for their learning and their behaviour with “Learning Gems”.
Publicly rewarding the right behaviour is very important to us. We recognise the value of affirming each child in front of their peers for doing the right thing and for showing effort and excellence.
We value community and work with a variety of local organisations, from the Bristol Robins Foundation to care homes and charities. Our annual Family Food Festival celebrates our school’s diversity, with families sharing food from their cultures. We foster a love for the expressive arts through expert-led projects like the Bristol Beacon Earthsong, and take part in events such as Stages dance and the TiLA Speak Out competition. Uniquely, we’re the only primary school in Bristol with our own swimming pool.
The strength of our school community is a feature that makes us one of the best primary schools in Bristol.
At Parson Street, community is at the heart of everything we do. As you walk through our doors, you’re greeted by the words: “One world, one community, one Parson Street”—a reflection of our commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment for every child and family.
We warmly invite all parents and carers to come and enjoy our coffee mornings, our toy library, our community library, our parent gym, food bank and even take part in free IT courses.
Thank you for your interest in our school. We encourage you to visit and experience for yourself what makes Parson Street such a special place to learn and to grow.
