Our Reception Class (Sapling Class)
Our Reception class is led by a skilled and dedicated Early Years team who value play-based learning, high-quality interactions, and warm, trusting relationships with every child.
Children benefit from direct access to a large, well-resourced outdoor area that supports exploration and learning throughout the day. At certain times, Reception and Nursery children enjoy the space together, helping them build friendships and learn collaboratively. Reception children also make full use of the wider school grounds, including the meadow, conservation area, and playground with climbing equipment.
Learning in Reception is rooted in purposeful play. Children are introduced to early phonics and maths through engaging, hands-on experiences that spark curiosity and build strong foundations. Whether they are exploring sounds through songs and games or discovering early number concepts while building, sorting or role-playing, children learn in meaningful, playful contexts that make learning enjoyable and memorable.
We are proud to have achieved the Bristol Standard Quality Improvement Framework for many consecutive years. This is a rigorous self-evaluation process used by Early Years practitioners to reflect on ten key areas of quality, celebrate strengths, and plan meaningful improvements.
Our Vision
- We nurture and enrich each individual child through playful experiences in a warm, safe and caring environment which supports all our learners to develop.
- We believe that given the right opportunities, our youngest learners can be empowered to develop into resilient, capable, confident and self-assured individuals who are equipped with the skills needed for later in life.
- We build strong relationships with parents/ carers and work together as co-educators, to enable our children to take the first steps in their school life in the best possible way.
